I'm Amanda, a Canadian artist and teacher. I have always loved art, a passion which has led to a keen interest in nature and all things surreal. I live in Hamilton with several strange creatures including a tarantula, two geckos, and my husband.
About My Work
I work in multiple mediums but have a special place in my heart for ink. Having lived most of my life in urban centers, I have developed a deep love of nature, and often use flora and fauna in my work to tell stories. I lean heavily on symbolism and surrealism, combining unrelated elements to create dissonant and even unsettling imagery. Sometimes it’s silly, sometimes it’s serious… mostly it’s weird!
On AI Genated Images
It feels strange to have to say this, but in a world where the use of generative AI continues to increase, it is important for my audience to know that this is all me. Concept work, thumbnails, composition planning, rough drafting; 100% of the work you see here has been designed and hand made by this human. Does it take longer than a prompt? Yes. Is it more work? Oh yeah. Does it cost more than slop? Certainly. Is it worth it? Definitely.
